So as I said in my introduction post, this blog is going to be tips on how to get healthy for people who may not know where to start.
Here are a few easy things to start practicing daily so hopefully they can become habits.
- Look at the nutrition facts when you go to choose a snack.
You’re probably reading this and thinking this is an obvious one. There is a difference between looking at them and understanding how many carbs or sugars are too many. Fore example, if I’m going to pick a snack I won’t pick anything that has over 15-20 grams of carbs and 10 grams of sugar. Just because it’s a granola bar doesn’t mean it’s healthy.
2. Eat the most carbs in the morning and try to limit yourself through out the day.
Carbs brings me to my next point. Throughout the day, your body burns energy naturally. If you are eating carbs in the morning, your body can burn it off through just walking or doing daily activities. If you eat a bowl of pasta right before you go to bed, you won’t burn it off because you aren’t active and those carbs just sit in your body and turn into fat.
3. It’s okay to take the stairs or park a little farther than normal.
Exercise is something many people do not throughly enjoy. Exercise is a huge part of losing weight but not the intense exercises some people may think you have to do. Incorporating small things such as taking the stairs or walking to class may burn at least one more calorie as opposed to taking the elevator.
4. Cut out soft drinks.
I know this is a hard one but hear me out. I love a good coke just as much as the next person but saving liquid calories can allow you to use those towards a small snack you might want later. Start by limiting yourself to maybe one soft drink a day or one every two days or however many depending on how much you consume a day. If you need a little flavor add a crystal like packet!
5. You don’t need an expensive gym membership.
I know gyms can be intimidating. But, you don’t even need one to lose weight! I am a struggling college student that gets paid minimum wage so I am not going to spend $80 a month on a gym membership. I have a gym at my apartment complex that is free so that is where I go everyday. I find all of my workouts on Instagram and Pinterest. If you do not live in an apartment or have a free gym close by, your backyard will do the trick!
I hope these tips helped at least a little and motivated you to implement them into your daily routine. Go try them and come back in a few days for a new post!
