Some people may be familiar with Crossfit and find it an intimidating sport. I personally think everyone should try it once because it is so different and challenging from anything I’ve done before.
The first thing you should know about Crossfit is, you should never feel intimidated. People think you have to be super strong and lift ten times your body weight to fit in and that’s not the case. I have never been super strong because I never weight lifted in high school. So my senior year when I tried Crossfit I wasn’t lifting a lot at all. Crossfit is about getting you stronger. I worked out with people of all different ages and body types and felt totally comfortable going at my own pace.
The only way I can explain Crossit is a challenging way to test your body and lift heavyweights. A few exercises you could find yourself doing if you participate in Crossfit are the assault bike, the rower, wall balls, and more. These exercises push your body to the limit and let me tell you, you will be drenched in sweat when you are done.
There are hundreds of Crossfit places all over so there are probably at least one or a few in your town. From my personal experience, the trainers are very motivating and push you to do the best. They are not intimidating or mean like some may think.
When you do Crossfit, everyone is doing the same workouts some just with heavier weights. The workout is called a WOD which stands for Workout Of the Day. Most of the time you have a certain number of rounds in a WOD but everyone moves at their own pace which is what I like about it because I don’t feel pressured to keep up with anyone. Sometimes there are partner workouts so you have someone to help you with the workout.
There are minimal machines in a Crossfit gym. it is basically an open warehouse with ropes hanging down and bars for pullups. You will find wall balls, the assault bike, rowers, and weightlifting bars in there but that is all the machines that are provided.
I inserted some pictures so you can get a feel for Crossfit and see what a gym looks like. If you are hesitant to try it out I encourage you to and most of the time the first class is free so you might as well give it a go!
