Different Ways Than the Gym

When people think about working out the just assume the only place to go is the local gym. For beginners, this can be difficult because not everyone knows how to exercise.

There are different ways of exercising that can be fun and is good for switching up your routine.

The first one is Barre. (pronounced bar) This is one of my favorite type of exercises to do because it is challenging but you can feel it working in your muscles. Barre is distinguished from other group fitness activities by its use of the ballet barre. It is small movements that burn more than big movements that make you sweat. In barre, resistance band, small pound weights, and small balls are used for almost every movement. The energy is upbeat with loud music and an instructor. There are two places in Troy that have barre.

The next one is Crossfit. Crossfit is a lot more challenging for beginners and can be intimidating but, I feel content with my workout when I’m done. Crossfit is the opposite of bar. It is heavy weights and high intensity workouts to really get your heart rate up. I swear there have been times I didn’t think I would make it through a workout but it was so rewarding after.

This is an example of an exercise at crossfit which is called the rope climb.

Next is Spin. Spin is basically riding a bike. But, it is a stationary bike that has a resistance wheel that can make it more challenging to pedal. Most spin classes are 30-45 minutes long and I know riding a bike for 30 minutes doesn’t seem that hard but I am normally drenched in sweat after.

Next up is Yoga. Yoga is composed of stretching and is a more calming exercise. Many people do yoga to clear their mind and increase their flexibility.

The last one is a not as common exercise called Pound. In pound, you take two sticks that look like drummers sticks and beat them together while you are moving around. The best way I can describe it is dancing with drumsticks! This is one I have never tried but always wanted to.

All this exercises can be found at a fitness studio in Troy called FitFire. If you want to go try one out, your first class is free! i love switching up my workout routines so I can stay motivated and not get bored!
