One of the things attending a small university has taught me is how many oppurtunities you get to interact with professors, staff, and coaches.
If you’ve never been to Troy, you might think it is like a normal pretty big college town but, you thought wrong.
I obviously love Troy because it is a lot like my hometown and doesn’t make me feel like a little fish in the Pacific Ocean. The chances of not seeing someone you know everytime you leave your house is slim-to-none.
It’s easy for anyone to be basically famous in Troy. If you hold a high leadership position on campus people know your name. And if you’re the head football coach, the same applies.
Being in the athletic department a lot has its advantages. For example, sharing an elevator with Neal Brown had me fangirling real hard. But, the effort the coaches make when trying to reach fans and students is very evident.
Already as the new head coach, Chip Lindsey has made an effort to connect with the students by giving out free pizza at basketball games, talking to greek life, and just recently holding a student appreciation football practice.
The football team just started spring practice and Lindsey wanted students to get a look at what the 2019 football team is looking like so far. So, at the student appreciation practice he offered the first 300 students free pizza along with a chance to win prizes if the students participated in games throughout the practice.
The biggest prize was an autographed football signed by Lindsey himself. Maybe if the game wasn’t kicking a field goal I would’ve participated but I didn’t want to embarrass myself.
Coming from a student perspective, as a coach it is important to make connections like this with the students and community in order to get a strong fan base for you your team.
So Coach Lindsey, thanks for appreciating us!
