Behind The Scenes

One thing I have yet to talk about in my blog is probably the one thing I look forward to recording the most once a month.

When I came to Troy, the first thing I wanted to do was get involved in my major right away.

While moving into her dorm frehsman year, one of my friends saw a newsletter that had information about getting involved with the athletic communications department with a phone number on it. She sent it to me and I called the number, came up to Troy the next week, talked to the athletic communications director, (a.k.a the coolest guy ever Wes Johnson) and jumped right in.

“The Social Second” is a weekly recap of all the sporting events. If you are friends with my mom on Facebook you know what these are because she shares everyone of them so you can stop reading this blog now! (love you mom glad I’m making you proud) For 1 minute you can catch a brief look at which sport won, which didn’t, and who’s traveling where the upcoming week. It can be found every Thursday on the Troy athletics Twitter and Facebook pages.

Although sometimes I am handed a script and told to read it in front of a camera, sometimes I have to write my own scripts.

It can be challenging hitting the key points of every sport especially ones I am less familar with. (like I said in one of my previous blogs I don’t know everything about every sport)

Do I read the whole script perfect everytime? absolutely not. I have a terrible habit of speaking words before my brain can process what they are and I start talking entirely too fast. Needless to say I feel very bad for the girl that edits the videos.

But, when everything comes together it makes a short and informative video to keep fans updated. So, if you want to see me channel my inner Laura Rutledge, go check it out!

Here’s a little 30 second preview of what a social second story could sound like.
